Optimal collusion-proof auctions

چکیده

We study an optimal collusion-proof auction in an environment where subsets of bidders may collude not just on their bids but also on their participation. Despite their ability to collude on participation, informational asymmetry facing the potential colluders can be exploited significantly to weaken their collusive power. The second-best auction — i.e., the optimal auction in a collusion-free environment — can be made collusion-proof, if at least one bidder is not collusive, or there are multiple bidding cartels, or the second-best outcome involves a nontrivial probability of the object not being sold. Regardless, optimal collusionproof auction prescribes nontrivial exclusion of collusive bidders, i.e., a refusal to sell to any collusive bidder with positive probability.

Weak Cartels and Collusion-Proof Auctions

We study the problem of collusion in private value auctions by cartels whose members cannot exchange monetary transfers among themselves (i.e. weak cartels). We restrict attention to a large class of auctions that includes standard auctions, which we call winner-payable auctions. Restricting attention to winner payable auctions, we provide a complete characterization of collusion-proof auction ...

How to Eliminate Collusion in Tenders and Auctions, using Game Theory (Determination of Ceiling and Floor Prices)

Governments and firms in accordance to their duties, obliged to inevitably contracts with Individuals and legal entities, especially in auction and tender process. Since, the law of conducting tenders and auctions is lacking efficiency and has major objection, therefore, this has led to the dissemination and development of areas of corruption in these contracts (through collusion). A Comparative Study of Multi-Attribute Continuous Double Auction Mechanisms

Auctions have been as a competitive method of buying and selling valuable or rare items for a long time. Single-sided auctions in which participants negotiate on a single attribute (e.g. price) are very popular. Double auctions and negotiation on multiple attributes create more advantages compared to single-sided and single-attribute auctions. Nonetheless, this adds the complexity of the auctio...

Shill-Proof Fee (SPF) Schedule: the Sunscreen against Seller Self-Collusion in Online English Auctions

Shill bidding in English auctions is the use of insincere bids on the seller’s behalf to artificially drive up the price of the listing. Shilling is illegal and has become a serious problem in online auctions because it is easy for the seller to bid under false names and hence self-collude. We show that in an independent private-value (IPV) English auction where there are heterogeneous bidders ...

Honor among thieves: collusion in multi-unit auctions

We consider collusion in multi-unit auctions where the allocation and payments are determined using the VCG mechanism. We show how collusion can increase the utility of the colluders, characterize the optimal collusion and show it can easily be computed in polynomial time. We then analyze the colluders’ coalition from a cooperative game theoretic perspective. We show that the collusion game is ...
